How to make a dog like you

Dogs come in so many different forms, it’s hard to think of a time when one wasn’t an excellent companion. But the truth is, the vast majority of dogs are perfectly happy being themselves and just doing their thing. For the small number who aren’t, it’s always possible to adopt a dog from a shelter, rescue or breeder that will give you what you want – a perfect pet.

It’s also a fact that no dog is ever truly perfect. There will always be things about their personalities, behavior and lifestyle you won’t get around. Some dogs may be too nervous around kids and others may be aggressive or destructive.

There are, however, some traits and habits of every dog that can be a deal-breaker. They may look sweet and adorable, but it’s possible that you’d hate having them in your house all day. Here are some of the most common, and most annoying, traits and habits of every dog:

Barking and yapping

Dog barkers are an unfortunate reality of modern life. Dogs who just love to be around people. Who love the attention. Who want to meet new friends. It’s no secret that most dogs bark because they want to be a part of your life. It doesn’t always mean they’re being mean, it just means they’re curious.

If your dog barks a lot, it can be a pain. In the house, he’s a nuisance, and in the garden or on the street, he’s a distraction. You don’t have to tolerate it, and there are some things you can do to make it more bearable.

The first thing to do is to figure out why your dog barks so much. If it’s only when you have guests around, you might find that it’s simply a matter of being a little stressed.

If that’s the case, the best solution is to teach your dog some calming behaviors. Teaching him to relax and calm down when he wants to can prevent him from barking when you’re at home. The only problem is, it takes a while to train your dog to do this, and it’s best not to expect too much too soon. It may be weeks before your dog is completely happy just sitting and chilling in the living room.

For the really aggressive barkers, there are some things you can try. If the barking becomes too much, try separating your dog from you by having your guests or children in a room where he can’t go, and then bring him into the room when everyone has left.

Try to give him little treats and toys when he’s being calm, then remove them if he starts barking again.

Some dogs are just never going to stop barking – it’s their thing. It’s something they do and they’ll probably always be barking. There’s not much you can do about that, but there is something you can do about the annoying barking.

Most of the time, it’s when your dog’s barking that you hear the problem. It’s not so easy to train yourself to be the kind of dog owner that your dog respects, but barking is one of the easiest things to control. If you teach your dog to give you and your guests signals of warning before he starts barking, it’ll save you a lot of time and energy and you’ll be able to do things without having to worry about your dog ruining them.

Settling down for a nap

No matter what time of day you’re reading this, it’s always possible that your dog is snoozing away. They’ll always take a nap, and it’s always a little awkward when you see them do it.

For the rest of the day, your dog will be a little tired and grumpy. There’s nothing you can do about that, but the trick is to make sure he’s not napping for long stretches of time. This can be tricky if you have a home full of toddlers and dogs, but you can at least give it a try.

Some dogs are just very laid back, and if they’ve already been sleeping all day, it may take some work to get them to go to bed. But it can be done.

The best way to tell if your dog is tired is to look at his eyes. If you see his eyelids getting heavier and his eyes looking more droopy, it’s time for bed. Your dog should also have a wag to his tail, since he’ll know it’s time to sleep.

There are some things you can try. If your dog has an annoying habit of snoring loudly, try keeping him awake by playing with him and walking around the room.

If he’s a snuggler and loves to be around you, play with him. He’ll start to feel tired, and he’ll have a hard time falling asleep with you around. The same goes for any dog who likes to snuggle up to you at night. It can be frustrating, but keep doing it, and he’ll get used to the idea.

Some dogs like to be in a quiet, peaceful environment. If your dog loves to be outside and wants to spend most of the day outside, it’s possible he’ll prefer to be alone during the day. If that’s the case, just keep an eye on him when he’s outdoors. He’ll be perfectly fine, and you’ll only have to deal with him when it’s time to go inside.

It’s also possible that your dog just really doesn’t like to go to bed. If you ever find your dog refusing to go to bed or snuggling up on the couch, don
