My neighbor's dog is purple

For reasons I don't understand, my neighbor has a one-eyed dog that's apparently been turned into some kind of "superdog." The thing has three sets of eyes and it's been trained to alert her to intruders by sitting up and putting its paw over its one eye. There's a story behind that. The owner doesn't actually have it trained that way, as far as I know, but it was probably at some point, because he does use the eye trick, and it does seem to scare people off who are trespassing.

One night, there was a break-in. And when the dog was alerted, it turned around and growled. One of the suspects ran away, but the others got caught. That night, they called up the police and the thief was charged with burglary. So that's the story as I know it.

What I don't understand is, what in the world is the owner thinking? I'm not trying to belittle the dog or its owner. They have a very large, very well-trained dog that does an excellent job of scaring trespassers away. And the owner is a good person. But I'm pretty sure that this is a dumb idea. You're training your dog to react aggressively to people who are trespassing, just because there was a burglary.

And what about when this goes awry? I assume that the suspects were not going to walk into a trap with the dog in it, if they had the chance. But what happens if one of them is injured or dies, and the dog comes into contact with them? Now you've got a vicious dog with no concept of human empathy. I'm not really sure how that would play out.

It wouldn't matter, if the thieves had the good sense to break the window or cut the doorbell wires.

If it's the case that a dog is trained to alert to intruders by showing it to people, then why on earth would someone want that to happen? Even if they have it trained, they should consider the other possibilities first. It sounds like an overly paranoid scheme.

There is an advantage to a dog. They have no ability to lie and they have a much higher level of self-preservation than humans.

I know, it's the same as my post. But I'm not sure how to word it differently.

The question is, does a dog have the ability to lie to anyone at all, or is it limited to people? I'm not talking about the ability to lie in regards to whether it was a real dog or a real intruder. But you know, like, an actual lie? And the first thing you would want a trained dog to tell you is an intruder is on its way. Or if it detects intruders in its area. Even a dog that knows you, can't lie to you, is it lie to you.

I was thinking about this and I think that with a dog, you would need a good friend who is good at teaching the dog to lie so it tells you things like they are going to attack, but they aren't.

Maybe this would work, if you want to go with it.

Take a dog, but train it to lie to you. Then, as long as the dog isn't trained to lie, they will only tell you things about intruders. If you call them to you by saying "There's a stranger here, can you go get my dog", it will run off and tell you that there's an intruder.

Oh, this could be an amazing idea. My mom is very good friends with someone who has a very good looking German Shepherd who does this. If a dog does something suspicious it is "heeled" so that when it alerts you it can't get in trouble and have to sit outside on a leash to stay out of the house, etc. I have been thinking about doing something like this to our dog with the exception of being on a leash to keep it from hurting herself...so we will see what happens.

Here I look at all the enthusiastic comments, and I can not understand - or is it me behind the times, or is everyone crazy? No, what is written perfectly, the original style is visible - I will not argue with that, it is. But as for the content itself - why describe it? Although many are interested: Probably, I do not understand something.
